The University College for Women is one of the oldest and largest educational institutions in Andhra Pradesh, which caters to women's education. The main building of this College is a monument of great aesthetic, architectural and historical importance being part of the British legacy in India. It is massive in size and has an impressive façade of imposing Corinthian pillars, each forty feet in height. Sculptures of two lions flank a sixty-foot space of twenty-one marble stairs. A residency of the former British Resident during the colonial period, it has its own mystique. The Durbar Hall which is a central part of the building has a painted ceiling, and parquetry floors and tall mirrors.
The College provides adequate security to the students who now number over four thousand and are enrolled in the faculties of Arts, Social Sciences, Commerce, Sciences and Business Management both at Undergraduate and the Postgraduate levels. The college offers thirty-five subjects at the Undergraduate level and sixteen courses at the postgraduate level. The support and administrative staff of the college are adequate. The college has good computer and library facilities with access to the internet. Students are encouraged to participate in Sports, NCC and NSS, cultural and literary activities. Infrastructure facilities are available for both indoor and outdoor games. The college also has a firing range and parade ground for the NCC cadets. The College strives to maintain standards of excellence in academic as well as extra curricular activities and thereby provides the students with the best of opportunities for complete personality development. |
