Department of Arabic was Started during the year 1924. Second Language for B.A, B.Sc, B.Com and Classical Language optional for B.A students are being taught since 1924 and the results are 100% Nearly 300 students are studying Arabic, the eligibility criteria for admission is to pass the Intermediate or its Equivalent Examination. Classical and Modern Arabic is taught with emphasis on grammar and literature, teaching innovations in practice in the Dept., students are participating through assignments, quizzes etc. There are Academic Prizes for highest marks – classical language for B.A students “BilkizAlluddin Cash Prize and BilkizAlluddin Rolling Shield’’ for second language students. A special prize for the best and outstanding student from the Dept. Classical or Second language from Dr.Mehjabeen Akther, Head of Dept. of Arabic, O.U.C.W. There are Academic, Research and General Books in the Library. Every year, students from Gulf, America, Africa, Omen, Kuwait, Iran, Somalia etc opt for Arabic Language in their course and the strength of the students are increasing every year. Essay Writing competitions, elocution competitions are held every year and awarding 1st, 2nd, 3rd prizes to the participated students. Certificate Course: short term certificate (self-financing) was started since 2002. The students learnt about functional Arabic including pronunciation and diction, The Coordinator is Prof. Mehjabeen Akther, Head of Dept. of Arabic. Placement: 50 – 60 % students are working in schools, college, call-centers, corporate institutions as teachers, lectures, translators, DTP operators, computer calligraphy in Arabic for books, magazines, Banners, invitation cards, web graphics designing etc.
